Why I’m One F.I.N.E Momma!

The Judy Blume DiaryBeing a self-diagnosed blogaholic, you would think that I actually kept a personal blog of my own. Surprisingly, up until now, I didn’t! I spend my days building customized blogs for clients, and managing numerous of my own business related sites, but had yet to take the time to start a journal.

I’ve spent the last 30 years helping everyone else – it was time to do something just for me. Don’t get me wrong, I am naturally the ‘take control mothering’ type, but this past year has made me realize, that I too deserve something of my own. Combine that with the fact I have NO problems rambling, bitching, and letting everyone know how I feel, it was time to give Facebook friends a break from my 420 character rants, and spill it all out here.

I have always enjoyed personal writing and in typical girl style did have a diary as a kid. Not just any diary – a Judy Blume one! I would spend time every night scribbling away in that book, hidden under the covers with a flashlight, so my younger sister didn’t tattle about the light being on. Looking back through that book now, I can’t help at laugh at how silly we are when we are 11, but also at how important the little things in life were to us at that age.

I needed to get that back…

I’ve had one of those ‘if it’s going to happen, it will happen to me’ lives! Everything from being kicked out as a teenager to police at my wedding, a winter with no heat to a learning disabled child. You know that saying “bad things come in 3’s”? Heck no, they come in 33’s!

But, it’s not all bad either! I have had many incredible times during my life, with some truly incredible people. I just need a place where I can remind myself of this. My posts here on F.I.N.E. won’t be about having fun on an expensive family vacation, or the latest designer handbag I purchased (like I ever would buy one of those anyhow!). They will be about the little things, that all of us tend to overlook as ‘important’. I am hoping it will help me get through these difficult times, and even bring my family closer together.

Why the name F.I.N.E? It’s actually a line from one of my favorite movies The Italian Job. Donald Sutherland (John) asks Mark Wahlberg (Charlie) the following:

John Bridger: I feel so optimistic. How do you feel?
Charlie Croker: [shrugging] I’m fine.
John Bridger: Fine? You know what “fine” stands for, don’t you?
Charlie Croker: Yeah, unfortunately.
John Bridger: Freaked out…
Charlie Croker: Insecure…
John Bridger: Neurotic…
Charlie Croker: And Emotional.
John Bridger: You see those columns behind you?
Charlie Croker: [looks behind him and sees the pillars] What about them?
John Bridger: That’s where they used to string up thieves who felt fine.

There are times when I am definitely freaked out, insecure, neurotic and emotional, but enough is enough. I don’t want to be strung up any more…

There is another fabulous line in that movie that defines exactly what I aim to accomplish with F.I.N.E. By replacing the reference to thieves and stealing, with “sharing”, you get:

…there are two kinds of thieves sharers in this world: The ones who steal share to enrich their lives, and those who steal share to define their lives. Don’t be the latter. Makes you miss out on what’s really important in this life.

I want to enrich my life…

So many people over the years have urged me to “write a book Jo!”. So here it is, in typical modern day fashion – a blog – about me. Ignore the spelling errors and icky grammar. I spend my day correcting everyone else, but here I will do as I please.

Hopefully you laugh, complain and cry at life along with me. I will always welcome comments, so please feel free to share, and most importantly – enjoy 🙂

  1. Joanne –

    Is this your “About Page?”

If it is, it’s fabulous. You sound like a friend I want to come visit. A woman who is filled with great stories she can’t wait to tell me. A woman who has lived a full and exciting life, and who has the ability to take me back to the moments she wants to share.

You come across as a woman who makes an instant connection.

    Who throws off sparks.

So if this is not your “About Page?”

    It should be.

    • Thanks Kris! So happy you could stop by 🙂

Since the site is still a design/layout in progress, I hadn’t actually gotten around to doing an “About Me”. I have the “About Us” almost complete, but you’ve now given me that nudge to make this post my “About Me” page 🙂

      Thanks so much!!

  2. It’s aan awesome paragraph in favor of all the web people; they will get advantage from it I
    am sure.
